Mood Board

I created this mood board so that I can show what my theme is going to be through the use of pictures. This means I can look at this when I need inspiration for ideas, this will help me when making my magazine. I was also able to look at different camera angles, costume and how it makes the groups look different and what it represents.

School Magazine Analysis

The magazine on the left has a big, colourful photograph on it with three pupils smiling and playing sport together, whereas the magazine on the right doesn’t have a photograph, it has a drawn image of a pencil and a fist. The first one has a bold brand at the top that makes the magazine look professional and makes it stand out to shoppers, the brand on the right magazine is a lot more subdued, and so doesn’t stand out as much. The colours on the left magazine are very vibrant to make it stand out on the shelves and attract more readers, and so are the colours on the right magazine. The font is bold on the right magazine so that the main story stands out to the public so they can read the first few words and then might want to read more, the font on the left magazine is a lot thinner but does look nice with the rest of the magazine. Both magazines have an issue date, which is a typical convention of magazines.

On the first cover there is a photo of a group of pupils playing netball, looking like they’re having fun. The reason they use this picture large on the cover is to try and tell the reader that their pupils are happy when they’re at school. This will then make a reader with kids want to send their children there since they will want their child to be happy whilst at school. On the second cover, the image used is of a fist with a pencil in it’s hand, this is clever as they actually use the image, which is similar to the revolution fist, and link it to the main story “Power to the parents”, similar to the revolution of gaining power. Also the colours used are very bright and stand out since they’re eye catching, also they aren’t gender orientated so will make the magazine appeal to both men and women.

The brand is shown on the first magazine in the top right hand corner in bold text. The colours used stick to the colour scheme of the magazine; this makes it look a lot more professional to the reader as it keeps to the theme. It also has a white background which makes the words stand out so it’s eye catching. On the second magazine the brand is mainly in the title besides a website URL in the bottom left. The branding at the top makes the magazine stand out to readers as it’s very bold and the colour used is a bright red.
